Out & About Productions has created three combo box components designed as advanced replacements for the three standard components that ship with Delphi. The three new components are DBLookupComboPlus designed to replace Delphi's DBLookupCombo, DBComboBoxPlus to replace DBComboBox. and ComboBoxPlus to replace ComboBox.

These comboboxes are available separately or as a set, the "Binford 2000 ComboBox Combo" with special value pricing. See the Product Summary below.

Features Common to all three Combo Plus Components

In addition to the features found in the standard ComboBoxes the Plus ComboBoxes have been enhanced to include options for;
bulletAutomatic sort the drop down list.
bulletIncremental keyboard search of dropdown list elements. (Quicken Style )
bulletAutofill - The remaining untyped text is automatically filled in based on the possibilities available in the dropdown list. (Quicken Style)
bulletAlaising of the value displayed to some other value. e.g. You see customer name but store customer number.
bulletMultiple columns of data in the dropdown list.
bulletColumn titles in the dropdown list.
bulletAdding new records to the dropdown list on the fly.
bulletComplete control of dropdown list alignment; left, right, below and above.
bulletChoice of boarder styles.
bulletIndependent control of the size of the edit box portion of the control and the size of the dropdown list.
bulletDifferent fonts can be selected for the edit portion and the dropdown portion of the control.
bulletHide or show the drop down speed button portion of the control on demand.

DBLookupComboPlus an Advanced Replacement for DBLookupCombo

In addition to the standard features found in Delphi's DBLookupCombo and the common features mentioned above the DBLookupComboPlus offers the following capabilities;

bulletNow directly supports datasets other than TTables includeing TQuery and TClientDataSet
bulletSupports TCtrlGrids
bulletSupports the new dockable properties of Delphi 4.
bulletSupport for the Master/Detail relationship defined in the lookup Ttable.
bulletSupport for incremental search of numeric fields.

As with the original DBLookupCombo, the user can still display text but store a different ID number behind the scenes. Now all the other behaviors your users have come to expect from a truly intelligent combo box are here too. Since DBLookupCombo uses a table and not a query, the creation of the dropdown list is fast and the number of Items in the list is unlimited.

DBLookupComboPlus comes with extensive documentation (a WRI file), Installable component help (a HLP file) and 4 detailed example projects that show various ways to use the component.

These two components were developed at the request of customers of the DBLookupComboPlus component. They wanted these enhanced capabilities in all their comboboxes.

You may down load any of the Combobox Plus demos from our download page. Note that the demo versions of these components are fully functional inside the Delphi environment. Attempts to run these components will fail Delphi is not running. If you find any of these controls useful and would like to use them in your applications you must register and order the regular version.

As of 10/30/2002 when we set these combo boxes free into the public domain we stopped supporting them. We will however continue to release updated versions as new version of Delphi are released
