AVIOS   A not-for-profit society, dedicated to disseminating information about applications using speech technology. Sponsors an annual Voice I/O Conference, and together with Kluwer Publishing publishes the International Journal of Speech Technology.

Microphone Companies:

Andrea Electronics   Providers of high quality microphones that use patented, active noise cancellation technology that improves speech intelligibility; cancels background noise & speaker echo feedback; increases the speed and accuracy of voice-computing applications & Internet communications.
Jabra   The whole thing fits in your ear, both microphone and speaker. You can talk and listen at the same time.
Knowles Electronics   Providers of professional computer headsets optimized for performance and comfort. It features a non-contacting speaker, which may be worn over either ear, and a pressure gradient electret microphone that delivers a clear broadband signal, canceling background noise -- even in extremely loud environments.
Koss   A large variety of audio products can be found here, including high quality noise canceling microphones and headsets.
Plantronics   Probably the worlds largest supplier of microphone headsets.
Shure   These folks have been making microphones for a long time. They have a large, high quality selection.
Telex   Makers of the leading non-headset noise canceling microphone.
Labtec   Their C-315 headset is the most reasonably priced headset available. It works well in low noise situations.
NCT   Sure, they have a noise canceling mic but they also noise canceling software and a developers kit. Very interesting.

Speech Recognition Engines:

AT&T The WATSON Advanced Speech Applications Platform - information on WATSON speech recognition and speech synthesis products.
Lucent Technologies They've been doing this a long time (as Bell Labs). There engines are listed as SAPI compliant.
Dragon They are the current leader in large vocabulary dictation engines.
IBM They have SAPI compliant command and control and dictation speech recognition engines. Best of all you can download the command and control engine for free.
Kurzweil Their voice pad is really cool (and it's free). They have merged with Lernout & Hauspie.
Lernout & Hauspie A major force in the speech business. lots of really excellent technology be sure to check out this site.
Microsoft Besides publishing the Speech API SDK they also have both a speech recognition engine (wisper) and a text to speech engine (wistler). They are pretty new to the market compared to some of these other vendors but they are catching up fast. Besides you can't beat the price they are charging for their engines for development (free).
TELES AG A German engine vendor.
Voice Control Systems There SAPI complient engine is available for over 45 different languages.

Text-to-Speech Engines:

AcuVoice This latest engine is "minimally" SAPI compliant.
AT&T The WATSON Advanced Speech Applications Platform - information on WATSON speech recognition and speech synthesis products.
Lucent Technologies They've been doing this a long time (as Bell Labs). There engines are listed as SAPI compliant..
Centigram Not SAPI complient yet .... but soon.
DECTalk DecTalk is the high end leader. Fully SAPI complient.
Elan Informatique Multilingual, fully SAPI complient. Definately worth checking out.
Eloquent Technology Their new SAPI engine is really excellent.
First Byte AKA Monolouge is the popular retail product "smooth talker". This is one of the most popular engines around.
Lernout & Hauspie These guys are big and have been gobbling up smaller vendors at a rate of about 2 a year. As a result they have a lot of really excellent technology.
IBM Their TTS engine is very good and is available for free download to evaluate.

Telia Promotor High quality, multilingual engine. They have a free TTS demo version of their engines. We experienced so problems with these engines if they are started more than once within the same application. Also there is something wrong with the startup value of the Pitch attribute.
Telephonica I+D (E-mail) Don't know much about them. When we get more info we will let you know.
