The oaAgent Story:

Not since TSmiley has a component set been so ....what. Most agree that little cartoons living on your desk top are annoying and worse than useless.

"Agents aren't bad, they're just programmed that way."

Truth is, these things are tons of fun. Did you buy that plastic Etch-0-Sketch frame that goes around your monitor because it was useful? How about the mink mouse cover or  the seat support for your scanner? I don't think so.

You need these components because they're fun.

The world is full of useful VCL extensions that increase productivity, save time, money, etc, etc. Well, the oaAgent components will do none of that and do it well. But they might help improve some other quality of the daily grind.

What is oaAgent? Good question. oaAgent is a pair of native VCL components that make working with the Microsoft Agent COM server very easy.

The first component ToaAgent wraps the MS Agent server COM. Note that this is not the MS Agent Active X control. This is native VCL talking directly to the MS Agent server. (more efficient then the ActiveX). Additionally the ToaAgent control sports a number of enhancements not found in the ActiveX control including persistent voice commands and custom context menus to name a few.

The second component in the pair is ToaAgentScript; an extensible scripting language and interpreter component. Use this component to quickly generate MS Agent performances. ToaAgentScript manages the interaction of multiple agents and other program elements. You and even extend the scripting language to add your own commands?

Sure, people will inevitably find some useful applications for these components and I'm sure there's nothing wrong with that.

"Cute sucks, program with attitude."
